A further reason why SUVs are cheaper to insure is basic safety. All family autos are packed with safety features, which is considered one of their main selling points.
A solid arguing point here is that SUVs aren’t exactly the most ecologically friendly vehicles out there. It won’t be a total shock if in the near future insurance providers start offering discount rates to “greener” vehicles. For the moment, having a SUV suggests that you have a better chance of finding affordable car insurance.
